Fused Deposition Modeling in Pharmaceutical Applications
Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is a promising 3D printing technique in pharmaceutical and medical manufacturing. Potential products are patient-specific implants and personalized drug dosage forms. In this work, the applicability of FDM in this field is investigated.

Pharmaceutical Hot-Melt Extrusion
The interest of the pharmaceutical industry concerning Hot-Melt-Extrusion (HME) exhibited on twin-screw-extruder is steadily increasing. This is related to the advantages of a continuous, fast and robust multistep-process combining several unit-operations. Besides the formulation the product quality of pharmaceuticals manufactured by HME is strongly dependent on different parameters controlling particular processes. Therefore the residence time as well as the temperature are critical quality attributes among others. In the course of this project an enhanced and intensified process comprehension of HME exhibited on twin-screw extruders shall be obtained through theoretical models validated by experimental investigations.

Downstream Processing of Amorphous Solid Dispersions
The formation of amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) is a common technique to overcome poor solubility of new drugs. Although some preparation methods to generate ASDs (e.g. hot-melt extrusion, spray drying) are well known for decades and are already well established in the pharmaceutical industry, the downstream processing of the obtained intermediates is often neglected in literature. This work is focusing on the downstream processing of hot-melt extrudates into immediate release tablets as the final dosage form.
