We are happy to announce that Amelie Mattusch successfully defended her doctoral thesis on November 18, 2025, entitled: “Mechanistic Studies of Hydrodynamic Effects in Intrinsic Dissolution Testing”

In her PhD, Amelie focused on understanding the dissolution behavior of pharmaceutical substances, systematically investigating the interplay between hydrodynamics and material properties in intrinsic dissolution rate (IDR) testing. By combining experimental studies with flow simulations, she explored how flow conditions and surface characteristics influence mass transfer and dissolution kinetics, providing a more comprehensive mechanistic understanding of the process.

Building on this foundation, Amelie developed an apparatus-independent evaluation approach by harmonizing shear stress conditions across different test systems and mathematically correcting boundary layer effects under laminar flow. This innovative framework enabled consistent comparison of dissolution data and deeper insights into diffusion-controlled mechanisms.

This work demonstrated a robust and mechanistic method for interpreting dissolution behavior, emphasizing the importance of flow dynamics and surface properties in pharmaceutical development.

Amelie is continuing her professional journey as Senior Scientist Application Development at Jungbunzlauer in Ladenburg.
