Abstract
Tableting is a powder compaction process performed either as a standalone or as a part of a manufacturing line. Quality control is commonly done ex-situ, requiring manual adjustment of the process parameter. Maintaining product specifications becomes increasingly challenging, especially in continuous manufacturing, making manual process control highly susceptible to human error. The implementation of an autonomous system represents a promising approach to improving production efficiency by reducing waste and minimizing operator intervention, thereby lowering production costs while simultaneously enhancing product quality through real-time process control.
In this context, one part of the work focuses on the synchronization between the tablet press and an already implemented UV-Vis spectroscopy setup in order to improve the quality of spectroscopy data for real-time determination of chosen physical specification of the tablet.
Another part of the work investigates the establishment of an external lubrication approach for the tableting process, since internal lubrication represents a major challenge, as no single process parameter allows selectively adjustment of lubrication effects alone. Therefore, this project focuses on external lubrication as a potential approach to enable the implementation of an autonomous system for the tableting process.
